The Super Bowl: questionably the most popular sporting event of each year. As Americans, there are very few that don't partake in some sort of Super Bowl festivities. Whether it be watching the game with family, friends, or even both, most of everyone is tuning in. With that being said, it is no wonder that marketers want to advertise their company by any means necessary during this few hour long premiere. Large scale companies compete for specific different commercial spots, some ranging in different worth. These groups pay an exact $4,000,000 simply for a 30 second spot! Even as this is the case, I'm not here to talk about how funny the Okios commercial was.
Advertisement was obviously not just seen on the commercials. Everywhere you looked there was some type of brand or logo being imprinted on the screen. Think about it: the players wearing Nike jerseys, Adidas shoes, and drinking from Gatorade bottles. Those companies paid to have these brands be used. Or looking up at the big flat screens and blimps and seeing large scale pictures of Snickers bars and Pepsi products. Even better, Pepsi bought and sponsored the pregame coin toss to determine the beginning procedures to the game! It's hard for one not to question what the game is really about anymore when there's 3 minutes of football action followed by 8 minutes of advertising. That is why when reading the title, I ask you to determine yourself: Is it The Super Bowl, or The Advertisement
